Day 1 in Predeal

After about 18 hours in transit, Jeanne and I finally arrived in Romania last night along with the last of the trainers and staff. While debaters and coaches won't be arriving until this monday, Youth Forum 2006 has officially begun! Here's a glimpse at what's going on right now in Predeal:

Paricipants in YF06 will enjoy this beautiful view of the Carpathian mountains. Our location high in the mountains makes for a terrific view but the drive is not for the faint of heart, as Slovenian trainer Simon can attest :)

Trainers Jeanne and Fran pose in front of the entrance to Hotel Belvedere. So far it seems that the organizers have made a terrific choice. The food is good and rooms sport balconies and tv sets. Those of you interested in spending time in town should be prepared to get some good exercise. Those seeking an even greater challenge can join Jeanne's alpine runners club.

Right now trainers are attending meetings to prepare for the lab sessions they will teach during the Championship as well as the Mixed Teams Tournament. If you think debaters are argumentative, you should see the professionals!

This is the lobby of Hotel Belvedere, where debaters will lounge and enjoy free wireless internet access. It's so empty now without you! Wishing a safe trip to all those traveling to Romania over the next few days. And to those of you just reading about it, check this blog often for live updates from what promises to be one of the best youth forums yet!
